"Kyle Orton knows all the stats. He knows the Broncos won only once in the first quarter of the season. He knows that he has thrown six interceptions and lost two fumbles in four games, and he knows the Broncos are tied for last in the AFC West.
"Not good enough," Orton said Wednesday, asked to grade his performance. "We're 1-3, so not good enough."
He has been good enough, at least to the Broncos' coaching staff, to remain the starter, and coach John Fox has remained resolute in his support of Orton heading into Sunday's game against San Diego.
But what if the Broncos lose that game? At 1-4 and heading into the bye week, could Orton's time here be over?
"I'm not into make or break, but obviously, every game we go into we're trying to win," Fox said."
