"Broncos tailback Laurence Maroney was arrested Monday night in St. Louis after a vehicle he was in was stopped by officers who found marijuana and a weapon inside.

A spokesman for the Broncos said the team was aware of the arrest and that the team would have no comment.

Maroney's publicist, Jane Higgins, told The Associated Press on Tuesday that Maroney, 25, has a permit to carry a gun. She said the former first-round pick is not accused of possessing drugs. Formal charges have not been filed.

The Metropolitan Police Department, City of St. Louis, issued a media release in response to questions about Maroney's arrest. The release didn't name Maroney, nor any other individuals, but it listed two 25-year-old men among those arrested, both of whom face possible charges on possession of marijuana and unlawful use of a weapon.
