"With Knowshon Moreno still recovering from a rib injury he suffered at Oakland two weeks ago, the Broncos may be forced to go the committee route again in the backfield to close out the season Sunday.
Moreno left Sunday's victory over Houston after seven carries when he aggravated the injury. Interim coach Eric Studesville said Moreno could have come back into the game, but that he elected to stick with Correll Buckhalter and Lance Ball getting the work in the second half.
Buckhalter scored - on a run and a pass reception - and finished with 42 yards rushing.
"We're going to wait and see how that goes," Studesville said of Moreno. "Knowshon's getting treatment and this time of year everybody's banged
up, so we're kind of on hold right now as far as putting those things in."
The Chargers have the No. 1 ranked defense overall - No. 1 against the pass and No. 2 against the run. Since Studesville was named interim coach the Broncos have had at least 31 carries in the past three games. It is the first time the team has had 30 carries in three consecutive games this season. Studesville had been the team's running backs coach.
Studesville said cornerback Champ Bailey is a question mark for Sunday with a heel injury. Bailey originally suffered the injury in the Broncos' Week 2 victory over Seattle, but didn't miss any games.
He injured the heel again when he collided with Texans tight end Owen Daniels after an incomplete pass Sunday and did not return to the game."
