Q: I was just wondering when Knowshon Moreno would return and what kind of season should we expect from him?

A: Hashmat, Moreno suffered a hamstring injury during the first practice of the first day of training camp and has not practiced since. He missed most of training camp last year after a brief holdout and then because of a sprained knee he suffered in the preseason opener in San Francisco.

The Broncos have been bringing him back slowly. Moreno has been working with the team's strength coaches every day and going through his rehab with the team's trainers. He's usually walking over to the Broncos' weight room when the team begins its practice each day.

Given all that, though, Moreno isn't expected to play in the final two preseason games, and the Broncos hope his first competitive carry comes in the regular-season opener in Jacksonville.

Moreno, Correll Buckhalter and LenDale White have missed significant time with injuries in training camp - Buckhalter and White have just returned to practice - so the team's running game is still a question mark.

The Broncos have high hopes for Moreno to be their three-down back, and he said he feels stronger. He appears to have added some bulk in the upper body during the offseason to guard against the decline he had as the 2009 season wore on.

Personnel executives throughout the NFL repeatedly said Moreno looked tired as the Broncos came down the stretch last season - and the game video showed that. Moreno disputed that notion, but in the last four games of the season he averaged 2.7, 2.2, 2.0 and 3.6 yards per carry and didn't top 63 yards rushing in any of those games - all Broncos' losses with a playoff spot on the line.

The Broncos have made moves to get bigger up front in the offensive line as well. They were not a good running team in short yardage last season and often had trouble closing out games because they couldn't keep drives going."
