The Detroit Tigers have traded catcher Bryan Holaday to the Texas Rangers in exchange for catcher Bobby Wilson and right-handed pitcher Myles Jaye, the team announced.

The 28-year-old Holaday, a Dallas, Texas, native who played college ball at TCU, heads home after weeks of speculation about his future with the organization. Though Holaday has had a terrific spring training, he found himself third on the team's depth chart at catcher behind starter James McCann and offseason acquisition Jarrod Saltalamacchia, who provides the Tigers with pop from the left side of the plate.

Holaday entered spring training with no more minor league options, meaning the Tigers were faced with a critical decision: expose him to waivers, where he would almost surely get claimed, or trade him to a team looking to fortify the position.
