"After considering not one but two top assistant coach positions, Jim Mora may have ultimately decided he was better off not working at all.

The Broncos and the Philadelphia Eagles, meanwhile, may feel like they were taken for a ride.

Mora, a former Atlanta Falcons and Seattle Seahawks head coach, declined defensive coordinator offers Wednesday from the Broncos and the Eagles.

One factor in Mora's change of heart, according to an NFL source, is that the Seahawks are still paying him a head coaching salary for one more season. He wouldn't get that full payout from Seattle if he accepted another job.

The Broncos, who were the favorites to land Mora after he met with head coach John Fox this week, were offering the standard rate of a two-year contract, according to an NFL source.

Mora was the Seahawks' head coach in 2009. He was fired after that season to make room for Pete Carroll. Apparently, neither the Eagles nor the Broncos provided the type of contract incentive to lure Mora back into coaching this year.

The Broncos have been paying considerable "dead money" to former head coaches Mike Shanahan and Josh McDaniels, as well as to several assistants, in recent years.

By passing up the Broncos' offer, Mora passed up the chance to become the team's sixth defensive coordinator in six years. The previous five: Larry Coyer (2006), Jim Bates (2007), Bob Slowik (2008), Mike Nolan (2009) and Don "Wink" Martindale (2010)."
