"Broncos coach Josh McDaniels has said he likes what quarterback Kyle Orton did in the team's offense last season. He has said Orton "does a lot of the things we expect well."
But Sunday, his actions spoke more loudly than those words as the Broncos traded for quarterback Brady Quinn.
Orton, with his words, said he liked the move.
"We've made a lot great moves this offseason, and this is another one," Orton said from Hawaii, where he is attending the NFL Players Association meetings. "He's a great player, and I'll be happy to work with him."
Denver sent fullback Peyton Hillis and two draft picks to the Cleveland Browns in exchange for Quinn in a move that will add plenty of competition for Orton's job this season.
Besides Hillis, the team's leading rusher in an injury-riddled backfield in 2008 who played little in McDaniels' first season as the team's coach, the Broncos gave up a sixth-round pick in the 2011 draft and a conditional pick in the 2012 draft. Quinn was the second of two first-round picks for the Browns — taken 22nd overall — in the 2007 draft."
