"The 2010 draft came and went without the Rams selecting a much-needed backup to running back Steven Jackson. But the Rams could be tapping a familiar source for help. Namely, a former Philadelphia Eagle or New York Giant.
In this case, it's a former Eagle, veteran running back Brian Westbrook. Westbrook arrived in St. Louis on Saturday for a physical and, if all goes well, he could be signed as a Ram.
"Brian's in here because we want to do the physical, we want to do that part of it," coach Steve Spagnuolo said. "But then we'll see where it goes from there. It's way, way early in the stage."
Spagnuolo coached previously with the Giants and the Eagles and makes no bones about the fact that he likes signing players that he or other members of his staff are familiar with.
Westbrook, 30, was released last month after eight seasons in Philly. Signing him could be dicey because he suffered two concussions last season, missing seven games. But if Westbrook checks out medically and signs with St. Louis, he could provide a strong complement to Jackson in the backfield."
