As San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick prepares to make his first start of the 2016 season, there’s been a lot come out about his relationship with the team.

The two sides just recently agreed to a contract restructure that pretty much voids the final four years of his old deal. Kaepernick can opt out of the deal after this season, while the 49ers are not on the hook for $14.5 million in injury guarantees in 2017.

It’s a somewhat shocking development. Kaepernick starting under a new contract. No one would have figured this possible a mere few months ago after the signal caller demanded a trade from the team (more on that here).

Now comes this pretty startling report from MMQB’s Albert Breer indicating that interested teams were concerned that Kaepernick might retire from the game altogether.
