"General manager Doug Melvin tells me the Brewers aren't the "mystery" team involved in the bidding on free-agent right-hander Brandon Webb.

Webb is attempting a comeback after missing two seasons with shoulder woes and several teams have shown interest in the former Arizona ace. Texas and Washington reportedly are in the hunt and the Cubs supposedly were in the mix as well but might have backed off.

There was as report Tuesday of a "mystery" NL Central club involved and I doubted it was the Brewers after they acquired Shaun Marcum and Zack Greinke this winter. Melvin confirmed to me that he is not in the hunt for Webb."
