Brett's company sued over necklaces' health claims

"A lawsuit against a company led by Royals legend George Brett alleges that the firm misrepresented the health benefits of wearing its jewelry.

The lawsuit resembles legal action last year that crushed a leader of the so-called "performance jewelry" industry.

Lawyers filed suit Monday in federal court in Des Moines, alleging that Brett Bros. Sports International misrepresented how its necklaces and other accessories could improve the wearer's sports performance.

The lawsuit, which seeks class-action status, said that Seth Thompson of Adel, Iowa, purchased a Brett Bros. Ionic necklace for about $30 at the 2011 College World Series in Omaha, Neb.

"(Thompson) hoped to experience the increased energy and focus and reduced fatigue and stress that the Brett Bros. website described," the lawsuit said. "(Thompson) used the Brett Bros. necklace as instructed and advertised, but did not experience any of the promised benefits.""
