"About three weeks have passed since Brett Favre signed with the Vikings, and Bernard Berrian still isn't up to full speed.
That's not the ideal situation for a new quarterback trying to get the timing down with his deep-threat receiver. Berrian was limited during Wednesday's practice, still recovering from a hamstring injury he suffered in the exhibition opener Aug. 14 at Indianapolis.
"I think it would be foolish to say that we're on the same page," Favre said. "Some ways, it's similar to what happened last year when I got to New York with Laveranues (Coles). He had a torn quad. I really didn't work with him until the first week, and I can remember playing at Miami and missing him on a couple of throws. I wasn't really sure where he was going to be, but as the season progressed, I got more confident in what he was doing."
Favre said it would have been nice to work more with Berrian, but Favre accepts that injuries are part of football.
"Sometimes you have to adapt on the fly," Favre said. "You can't make excuses; you've got to get it done. So we're way behind. He's not. I would say I'm way behind on where I need to be with him."
Berrian declined to comment when asked whether he thought he would play Sunday, deferring to coach Brad Childress. Childress said Berrian has been doing extra cardio work to get up to speed but he didn't say whether the receiver would play.
Second to none: Favre told Cleveland reporters during a conference call that he's been blown away by running back Adrian Peterson.
"The guy is a stud," Favre said. "To me what's amazing, when you know, it's kind of like with Randy Moss, you know they're going to throw it to him and he still catches it. You know they're going to hand it to Adrian and he still gets 1,700 yards. It's pretty impressive. He makes yardage when yardage isn't there. He's just a dynamic back.
"If anything, in the few weeks I've been here and worked with him, his work ethic is second to none. And that, along with his talent, is why he's been so successful and why he'll continue to be successful. He wants to be good, he works at the things he needs to work at, he's intense. Guys want to block for him, guys want to play with him. Everything I've thought of Adrian Peterson has held true. I've got a lot of respect for the guy. He's fun to hand it to." "
