"Former Jets wideout Braylon Edwards is not in training camp with any NFL teams, but he may be in trouble again.
Edwards, a free agent who recently pled guilty to a DWI in Manhattan, was allegedly involved in a melee at a bar in Birmingham, Mich., on Monday, according to a report by Observer and Eccentric, a newspaper in suburban Detroit. A spokesman for the Birmingham (Mich.) Police confirmed that investigators are looking into the matter.
"The case is evolving as we get more information," a police spokesman said.
Edwards, 28, was reportedly in attendance with two cousins, Tre and Edmund Wright, when a fight broke out that resulted in one bouncer being stabbed in the neck with a fork and a second bouncer being stabbed in the hand with a pocketknife. The bar's ownership told the newspaper that Edwards was directly involved, but refused to comment further in a statement.
The Wrights were arraigned on charges of felonious assault Monday. They pled not guilty. Edwards had not been charged as of Wednesday night. But the website Deadspin.com says that a bus boy will press charges against the free-agent wideout.
There were no serious injuries in the fight.
According to the Detroit Free Press, former Knicks guard Jalen Rose was at the bar and, a source told the paper, he tried to break up the brawl.
"Jalen was a true gentlemen," one employee told the Free Press. Rose, who like Edwards is a University of Michigan product, has had his own legal troubles, sentenced to 20 days in prison for drunk driving.
A post on Edwards' Twitter account around the time of the alleged brawl read: "Damn. Get ya knuckles ready" and "Don't fight if. You don't know how."
He later deleted the post and claimed that his account was hacked."
