Braylon Edwards due in Cleveland Wednesday for probation violation hearing

"Jets free-agent receiver Braylon Edwards is due in Cleveland Municipal Court for a probation violation hearing Wednesday, according to a court spokesperson. Edwards potentially faces up to six months in jail, though the court could decide on a lesser penalty.

Edwards pleaded guilty on Friday to driving while intoxicated, after a Sept. 21 arrest in Manhattan. The guilty plea triggered a response in Cleveland, where he was on probation at the time of his arrest.

Edwards' probation in Ohio stemmed from a 2009 incident outside a nightclub, after which he pleaded no contest to aggravated disorderly conduct in January 2010. Edwards paid a $1,000 fine and received a suspended 180-day jail sentence, and he was placed on inactive probation.

The suspended jail sentence was conditional, meaning Edwards would not have to serve it if he completed his probation without incident. But since he was arrested for DWI, and pleaded guilty, the court can now revisit the jail sentence, the spokesperson said.

Edwards will appear at 1:30 p.m. in front of Judge Michelle Earley, who presided over his aggravated disorderly conduct case. A decision will be reached Wednesday, the spokesperson said.

It's possible Edwards may not have to serve jail time, instead being assigned a lesser penalty, such as a fine, the spokesperson added."
