Braves place Chipper Jones on disabled list

"Chipper Jones has played for nearly two months with a torn meniscus in his right knee, but the pain has gotten to the point where he can't manage it any longer.

The Braves placed Jones on the disabled list Saturday and recalled infielder Brandon Hicks from Triple-A Gwinnett. Jones will miss the final two games of the series with the Philadelphia Phillies and will be unavailable to play in Tuesday's All-Star game. He was selected to the team for the seventh time, this time by player vote.

The Braves have not yet clarified if and when Jones will undergo arthroscopic surgery, but that appears the next logical step for Jones who will use four days of the All-Star break toward his recovery time. Surgery is expected to keep him out for 2-3 weeks.

Jones acknowledged after Friday night's game against the Phillies that his right knee is not improving and he was considering missing the All-Star break because of it, possibly to undergo arthroscopic surgery."
