The Atlanta Braves picked up a power-hitting infielder on Monday, trading for Tampa Bay Rays utility man Ryan Schimpf. The Braves also announced that either a player to be named later or cash considerations will be heading back to Tampa Bay in the deal.

Rounding out Monday’s slate, Braves right-hander Josh Ravin has cleared waivers and has been outrighted to Triple-A Gwinnett as a result.

Schimpf’s trade to Atlanta comes just a few days after the Rays designated him for assignment to make room for Carlos Gomez on the club’s 40-man roster. Tampa Bay recently signed the veteran outfielder to a one-year deal. Capable of playing second base, third base and left field, Schimpf offers the Braves some versatility with the glove. He also gives them a truly all or nothing bat.
