Brandon Marshall shows off speed he's regained this offseason

"It was one of those plays special players routinely make.

Brandon Marshall caught a pass Chad Henne lobbed into the air on the first offensive drive of Saturday night's 17-13 loss to Tampa Bay.

The two-time Pro Bowl receiver got the ball at the 30-yard line, then used his left arm to shove cornerback E.J. Biggers to the ground. He then planted his right foot to make a sharp cut left before turning on the afterburners. He stiff armed linebacker Quincy Black to the ground then sprinted another 15-yards to finish off a 60-yard touchdown reception.

The play became one of ESPN's Plays of the Night, but truth is the touchdown grab was a fairly simple play to Marshall. Just one of many he's made countless times during his impressive six-year career.

However, it was also one Marshall admits he probably couldn't have made last season, his first with the Dolphins.

Marshall, whom the Dolphins traded two second-round picks for then signed to a five-year, $47.3 million deal in 2010, admits his body was never right following offseason hip surgery, which kept him from participating in the team's offseason program.

When watching film from last season Marshall noticed his explosion was missing. He needed it to return to remain special, so he called his old college trainer, Matt Gates, founder of Fit Speed Inc., to help him get it back.

"I'm excited because this is the first offseason I've really had a chance to work on it," Marshall said. "Every since my rookie season I've been rehabbing some kind of injury. This was the first time I actually spent an offseason getting better at something, and it's paid off. Matt Gates did a great job of getting me that speed, that explosion."

And it wasn't easy, or cheap."
