"Three days before returning to South Florida, Brandon Marshall is driving around the suburbs of Newton, Mass., searching for a lighted field on which to run.

It's been a long day. Early morning classes. Packing up his apartment. Getting his vehicle shipped home. But Marshall won't let the day end until he gets an agility workout in.

"I want Davone Bess' feet," Marshall confesses. "He's not fast, but he's productive. No wasted movement."

So here he is at 9 p.m. doing 80-yard shuttle runs in the outfield during the late innings of a Babe Ruth League baseball game.

"Guys are trying to find their own thing to get an edge. I'm up running while everyone else is sleeping so there's no way I'm going to bend over in a game," said Marshall, who led the Dolphins in receiving with 1,014 yard despite missing two games with a hamstring injury.

Marshall's odyssey in Boston has also provided a getaway for nearly three months. He admits to pushing himself to his limits — mentally and physically — this offseason because it's helped keep his mind away from the off-field drama that continues to plague him.

On April 22 his wife, Michi Nogami-Marshall, was arrested and charged with aggravated battery for allegedly stabbing him in the abdomen. She returned to jail on June 10 for violating the protection order when it was discovered that she was living in their Southwest Ranches home.

"I can't talk about the details of the incident because it's still an open case, but I did talk to the state attorney's office last month and the one thing I made clear was my wife did not stab me. She didn't assault me. We were having a marital dispute that got heated, but it didn't happen as reported," Marshall said."
