Brad Richards left the ice early in today’s optional skate and, shortly afterwards, the Rangers recalled ex-Islanders tough guy Micheal Haley from Connecticut (AHL).

So it would be fair to infer that Richards will be a game-time decision, at best.

Richards did not speak with the media as he received treatment following his skate.

Haley, 26, has nine goals, 12 assists and 158 penalty minutes in 56 games for the Whale. In 43 NHL games with the Islanders, Haley has two goals, one assist and 151 penalty minutes.

And, of course, Haley was a central character in the Islanders-Penguins riot from Feb. 11, 2011, you know, the one where Penguins owner issued a statement the next day saying he didn’t know whether he still wanted to be associated with the NHL. Another central figure in that game-long brawl is current Flyer Max Talbot, who said at his team’s morning skate today, per NHL.com’s Dave Lozo, that this game was “the most important game” of the season for the Flyers.
