Boyes, Gaustad flourishing after role reversal

"The Sabres have guys playing unfamiliar positions all over the place. Tyler Ennis and Brad Boyes are at center. Paul Gaustad is at left wing.

It's not easy, but it's working.

The Sabres, who sorely lack depth at center throughout the organization, will continue to shuffle players tonight when they visit the New York Islanders. The biggest switch comes when Gaustad, Boyes and right wing Patrick Kaleta hit the ice.

Gaustad has been a center for nearly his entire Sabres career, but he'll skate at left wing. Boyes, who was a right winger at previous stops, will be in the middle.

"That line has been our best line," coach Lindy Ruff said Friday. "It's created the most chances. It's given up the least. It had the best opportunities to score in the Ranger game. It won us the game in Montreal."

Gaustad has been playing inspired hockey for basically the first time all season. He had a goal and two assists Tuesday in Montreal while playing the wing, something he did back in the mid-2000s while skating with center Chris Drury and right wing Ales Kotalik."
