"Torii Hunter looked over from right field Monday night and got to watch Peter Bourjos go up over the outfield wall and bring back a home run - twice. The first time, Bourjos couldn't hang on to the ball and Sean Rodriguez got a double. The second time, the ball stayed in his glove.
"He played well," Hunter said after Monday's loss to Tampa Bay. "That one ball, he could've probably gotten that. I don't know if he knew the wall was there or not, but the next time, he made an adjustment. That guy is an athlete. He's not even in comfortable in the big leagues yet, and he's playing great defense.
"That's how I got started. I played great defense first, and I learned how to hit a year or two later. That's how it's going to be for him."
Monday was Bourjos' 17th game since being called up from triple-A Salt Lake, and his offensive numbers almost identically mirror Torii Hunter's offensive numbers through the first 17 games of his career.
After Monday, Bourjos was 11-for-59 at the plate with one home run, six runs batted in and 14 strikeouts. In the first 17 games of his career, Hunter was 13-for-58 with one home run, six RBI and 14 strikeouts."
