Boston College coach Steve Addazio declined to name his starting quarterback for Friday night’s season opener against Northern Illinois at Huskie Stadium in DeKalb, Ill.

Addazio said he will make a game-day announcement. Graduate student Darius Wade, who has two seasons of eligibility, and redshirt freshman Anthony Brown are vying for the spot.

“We have a plan in place, and I‘m going to keep that plan with us right now and act upon it according to what we’ve laid out for us,” said Addazio during his weekly press briefing this morning at Conte Forum. “There is no competitive advantage for me in any way shape or form to show everything and what we want do and why we want to do it.”

Wade and Brown are both dual-threat, read-option quarterbacks with similar athletic skills. Both enjoyed productive moments in training camp and intersquad scrimmages in the battle to replace last year's starter, Patrick Towles. The only real difference is that Wade is a southpaw and Brown is a righty.
