Astros prospect Yulieski Gurriel is moving closer to Houston, at least geographically.

The Cuban infielder who was signed to a five-year, $47.5 million contract last month will join Class AA Corpus Christi for the third part of his tuneup before making his big-league debut.

Gurriel, 32, is expected to be with the Hooks for their current homestand against Northwest Arkansas and Arkansas, which runs through Sunday.

Gurriel is fresh off a stint with Class A Lancaster of the California League. In four games with the JetHawks, Gurriel hit .429 (6 for 14) with a home run and 9 RBIs. That included a grand slam and 5 RBIs in Sunday's 12-10 loss to Modesto.
