""Crash" has landed in the Pacific Northwest.

The Charlotte Bobcats have traded co-captain Gerald Wallace - he of the constant crash landings - to the Portland Trail Blazers for three expiring contracts, two first-round picks and cash.

This deal, which was deemed dead by a source with one of the two teams Wednesday night and again by coach Paul Silas on Thursday morning, continues a trend - sacrificing rotation players to reduce payroll going forward.

Over the summer, the Bobcats traded center Tyson Chandler to the Dallas Mavericks to acquire Erick Dampier's unguaranteed contract. They also chose not to re-sign point guard Raymond Felton, who went to the New York Knicks in free-agency.

In another trade Thursday, the Bobcats dealt center Nazr Mohammed to the Oklahoma City Thunder for guard Morris Peterson and forward D.J. White. To make that deal, the Bobcats also waived forward Derrick Brown, a former second-round pick."
