Ricky Romero needs a break to clear his mind and rest his body, his manager says. He pitches better with extra rest, John Farrell added.

The Toronto Blue Jays skipper did not mention another pertinent fact: Boston has always been bad news for Romero.

Which might help to explain why the embattled left-hander will skip his scheduled start in Fenway Park on Saturday and delay his next outing until Wednesday.

Romero was not happy about the news. He does not need the time off, he said. The season is almost over, and he will have lots of time for rest in a month, he added.

"Let's face it, it's not about rest," Romero said. "It's about winning, and I haven't been doing it."
