Centre fielder Colby Rasmus left Friday’s game injured as he trotted out to centre field before the bottom of the first inning.

As he was going out to centre field after the Jays had gone in order in the top of the first Rasmus was hit in the left eye by a ball thrown by right fielder Anthony Gose 150 feet away and was removed from the game. Rasmus obviously did not see the ball on its way to him.

“I thought he was looking at me and I was just trying to throw it to him and hit him right in the face” said Gose very nearly in tears after the game. “I was just trying to get him the ball so he could play catch with Rajai (Davis).”

The extent of Rasmus’s injury was not immediately known.

“Serious?” said Gose. “He’s at the hospital. that tells you enough right there.”

That forced manager John Gibbons to realign his outfield moving Gose from right to centre Davis from left to right and Kevin Pillar from the bench to left field.
