Russell Martin hasn’t played in just more than a month, but that will change after the Toronto Blue Jays brought their catcher off the 10-day disabled list on Tuesday.

The Blue Jays activated the catcher in advance of their game against the Baltimore Orioles on Tuesday night. Martin has not played since Aug. 11, when he suffered an oblique strain in a Blue Jays game against the Pittsburgh Pirates. However, Luke Maile will start at catcher.

Martin’s return won’t come at a consequential time for the club. The Blue Jays are 14.5 games back of first place and in play-out-the-string mode after back-to-back playoff seasons. Prior to the Jays’ 2015-16 runs, they had not made the playoffs since their back-to-back World Series conquests in 1992-93. So, Martin’s return will probably fly under the radar.
