"Brendan Shanahan has been a very busy NHL disciplinarian.
Since taking over the role of handing out punishment to players who commit illegal acts on the ice this season, the NHL senior vice president has made it his mission to clean up the game, with an emphasis on eliminating dangerous hits to the head.
Shanahan's latest hearing was Thursday when he met with the Red Wings' Brendan Smith, who leveled the Blackhawks' Ben Smith with a shoulder to the rookie's head during an exhibition Wednesday night at the United Center. Shanahan to rule on the duration of a possible suspension Friday."
