"Blaine Gabbert wore a Jaguars baseball cap and held a clipboard for most of Sunday afternoon's game, a spectator as the Jaguars played the New York Jets.
But after quarterback Luke McCown threw his fourth interception, the cap came off and a helmet replaced it.
On the sideline, Gabbert began warming up. He took snaps from center Brad Meester.
McCown came off the field and wished him luck.
It isn't clear yet if Sunday's game marked the start of the Blaine Gabbert era in Jacksonville. But against the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium, he saw one quarter of real, full speed NFL action. Gabbert finished the game completing five of six passes for 52 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions.
"I guess the immediate next question is what are you going to do moving forward," Del Rio said. "And my answer is we'll discuss that as a staff. What I can tell you now is I made the decision in this ballgame to let Blaine play and let him get a little experience. We'll go from here.""
