At age 27 and after hitting just .217 for San Antonio last season, 3B Jake Blackwood wasn't exactly at the top of the Padres' prospect list.

But he's starting to draw some attention this season.

He pushed his average to .312 after a three-hit, four-RBI night in the Missions' 10-5 win over Corpus Christi on Tuesday.

Blackwood pushed his RBI total to a team-leading 23 in 32 games.

Drafted by the Marlins in 2006, he was released and was in independent ball in 2010.

He signed with the Giants as a free agent that winter, but was taken by the Padres in the Rule 5 Draft before he put on a San Francisco uniform.
