Bills receiver Lee Evans

"Bills receiver Lee Evans, the Bedford High grad, is still looking for that elusive big game against his beloved hometown Browns.

He was hoping it would come last season under the bright lights of Monday Night Football. Instead, he was shut out for the first time in 67 games, breaking the third-longest reception streak in team history.

All told, Evans has only eight catches for 69 yards and a touchdown in three games against the Browns. As a rookie, he caught four passes for 33 yards and a TD against the Browns, and in 2007, he caught four for 36 in the "Snow Bowl" game.

But that doesn't mean the Browns won't be ready for Long-Distance Lee.

"Lee Evans has great vertical speed," said Browns coach Eric Mangini. "He's one of those guys that can threaten you deep, but he has the change of direction where if you play him really far off, he can stop quickly. Some of those speed guys can burn, but they can't transition. He's one of those guys that can burn and transition and makes it tough. He's made a ton of big catches over the years. Unfortunately, he's too many against teams that I've coached. He hit us with one, it was close game, they were backed up, ball got batted, found his hands and went way too long. He's a tough guy to deal with."

Evans, who now has Terrell Owens on the other side to draw off some coverage, will try to beat cornerbacks Eric Wright and Brandon McDonald, and Mike Adams depending on how much he plays at corner.

"He's a fast, explosive guy, a big-play receiver, another big threat for them," said Wright. "He's been playing well for awhile now. He's a consistent guy that brings a lot to the table. They have a great receiving corps. We just have to make sure we play close attention to those guys"
