Patriots coach Bill Belichick reinforced his support for Greg Schiano on Monday, a day after Schiano's apparent deal to become the head coach at Tennessee fell apart amid backlash from the Vols' fan base.

"One hundred percent," Belichick said about vouching for Schiano's character. "Yes. One hundred percent."

Tennessee looked prepared to hire Schiano, the Ohio State defensive coordinator and former Rutgers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach, to replace Butch Jones, whom the Volunteers fired two weeks ago.

However, Tennessee backed off that decision on Sunday, in part because of a huge backlash from its fanbase. Fans protested the decision to hire Schiano and used his purported ties to the investigation into the abuse committed by former Penn State defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky.
