"A day after running back Laurence Maroney received zero snaps for the second consecutive preseason game, coach Bill Belichick offered him his full-throated support.
Belichick did not hesitate when asked if he thought the running back would help the team during the regular season.
"Oh, absolutely," Belichick said. "I sure do."
Maroney's status with the team has been a subject for debate, as the 2009 starter has just eight carries in three preseason games. Only veteran Kevin Faulk has fewer (three).
The expectation for Maroney was an extended window of opportunity Thursday night against the Rams, considering it was the third preseason game. Yet, he didn't see the field, let alone find a rhythm.
The 2006 first-round draft pick simply watched. As for a reason, Belichick pointed to holding the ball for just 16 minutes, 14 seconds compared to the Rams' 43:46."
