Beltran, Jesus Feliciano help Mets take diamond back

"Hours after yesterday's non-waiver trade deadline, the Mets didn't waver.

There was no quit in manager Jerry Manuel's beleaguered bunch as last night's late innings arrived, after the Diamondbacks had embarrassed Bobby Parnell and threatened to clinch a second straight series win against the Mets.

In a rare uplifting July moment, Carlos Beltran hit a sacrifice fly in the ninth inning, allowing the Mets to celebrate their fourth walk-off victory of the season, 5-4 at Citi Field.

It came just hours after general manager Omar Minaya decided to stand pat at the deadline, leaving the Mets (53-51) with the same cast of characters heading into the dog days of August.

Jesus Feliciano tripled leading off the ninth against Juan Gutierrez and scored the winning run on Beltran's shot to deep right after the Diamondbacks intentionally walked Angel Pagan and David Wright to load the bases with one out.

"We're going to need to go on a stretch where we go win some series in a row," said Wright, who tied the game at 4-4 with a two-run double in the seventh. "For us it usually starts at home."

The Mets gained a game on the Braves and now trail the NL East leader by 6½ lengths, with a three-game series looming in Atlanta beginning tomorrow. First the Mets have to deal with Arizona for one last game this season."
