"Just got back from vacation, and I see a lot happened while I was gone.
The Magic, it seems, entered the LeBron James sweepstakes and have "reportedly" — and I use that word loosely — investigated deals whereby they will trade point guard Jameer Nelson either for New Orleans Hornets superstar Chris Paul or for Washington Wizards gunner Gilbert Arenas.
Or maybe not.
Sadly, it's reached this point.
You can't believe anything anymore.
Not coaches. Not GMs. Not even the 11 o'clock news.
Over the last few days, we have heard media outlets tell us LeBron James is almost certainly headed to (take your pick) New York … Chicago … and, most recently, Miami.
Here is the latest in the ridiculousness: ESPN reported Tuesday that LeBron, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh held a summit in Miami this past weekend to discuss their plans for free agency. One problem: The Miami Herald reported Tuesday that Wade spent the weekend in Chicago.
Getting it first has become more important than getting it right. Even locally, where there are "reports" the Magic are shopping Nelson, the co-captain and heart and soul of the team.
Again, who knows if any of this is true. These days, with all the bloggers, tweeters and WKMG Channel 6 sports anchor David "Ping" Pingalore regurgitating all of this message board gossip as fact, it's hard to tell what is real and what is rumor.
Ping reported a few days ago the Magic were trying to bring in Paul for Jameer Nelson and Vince Carter. Of course, Ping is also the one who reported that Urban Meyer temporarily resigned at the University of Florida because he suffered a heart attack (actually it was closer to heartburn) and that UCF could get an invitation to the Big East within a week. That was two weeks ago."
