1. The main item of interest: Johan Santana threw a bullpen session. It went fine. The team is still taking things day to day, with Santana scheduled to pitch in a minor-league game on Friday. From there, they will assess their options. Winter ball does not appear to be a likely route. Pitching coach Dan Warthen said Santana will stop throwing for the year on Nov. 1, which wouldn't allow for much time pitching in Latin America.

2. Chris Schwinden and Val Pascucci are here, as is Mike Baxter. Schwinden will start the first game of Thursday's doubleheader against Atlanta. The team has not officially made the roster moves necessary to add both Schwinden and Pascucci to the 40-man roster. "
