"Middle linebacker Jon Beason suffered an ankle injury in the third quarter Sunday that could keep him out of the lineup for an extended period of time.

Coach Ron Rivera declined to specify the nature of Beason's ankle injury but said "it looks dire."

Beason was chasing Arizona tight end Jeff King in the open field when Beason went to the ground, clutching his left leg. He had missed the bulk of training camp dealing with tendinitis in his left Achilles and recently had a minor medical procedure performed to alleviate the discomfort. It was unclear if Beason's injury Sunday might be related to his previous injury."
