The hit Chicago Bears rookie linebacker Jon Bostic put on a San Diego wide receiver fired up an entire sideline last Thursday night at Soldier Field.

The most lasting effect will be felt by Bostic though. Teammate Lance Briggs announced via his Twitter account Wednesday morning that the NFL fined Bostic $21000 for the hit on Chargers wide receiver Mike Willie. A source confirmed Briggs’ announcement.

The big shot dislodged the ball from Willie.

"Shaking my head moment. Nfl fines jon bostic 21k for his clean hit against the chargers" Briggs wrote on Twitter.

The Bears were energized by Bostic’s hit during the game and still buzzing about it afterward.

"Kind of looked Lance Briggs-esque" defensive end Corey Wootton said. "Everyone was saying 'That's mini Lance over there.' It was a heck of a hit by him. He has been having a great preseason. He’s been great so far."

Bostic was fined for a hit against a defenseless receiver for lowering his head and making forcible contact with the top or crown of his helmet. The specific rule is No. 12 Section 2 Article 7 (b) (2) which states “Prohibited contact against a player who is in a defenseless posture is: (2) Lowering the head and making forcible contact with the top/crown or forehead/"hairline" parts of the helmet against any part of the defenseless player's body.”
