"There has been plenty for Tim Spencer to evaluate in the first week of training camp but the Chicago Bears running backs coach is anxious to see much more.

Starter Matt Forte showed up in such a good shape that Spencer's never seen him in before with a more chiseled frame. Newly signed Marion Barber practiced for the first time Thursday night and coach Lovie Smith credited him with setting the tone early in the workout with some tough inside running.

Chester Taylor also got plenty of looks and the process is just beginning as the team sorts through the depth chart and considers possibilities. Spencer didn't do a lot of tape work on Barber prior to him arriving because he felt he had a good handle on him.

"He has a physical running style," Spencer said. "We obviously feel like he has a lot of gas in the tank. We're certainly not going to beat him up in camp. We're going to get our looks at him. I am sure he is going to do all right. He's done all right in the past and he's just itching to get out there right now.""
