"The intent wasn't to look any more menacing. Ricky Nolasco had a practical reason for leaving the razor in the toiletries bag a few extra days.
"I didn't want to shave in the cold weather," he said.
It was the Rockies who felt chilled Saturday as Nolasco pitched the Marlins Get your Marlins Tickets now! to a 4-1 win in the opening game of a doubleheader at Coors Field. With a first-pitch temperature of 54 degrees, Nolasco allowed a run over eight innings with no walks and nine strikeouts.
Nate Robertson could not sustain the momentum in the nightcap. The Rockies scored five runs over four innings off him on their way to an 8-1 victory. Sinkerball specialist Aaron Cook held the Marlins to five hits (three by Wes Helms) during the complete-game effort.
The loss also saw Jorge Cantu's hitting streak end at 21 games. He went 0 for 4 with four groundouts. In the opener, Cantu with a third-inning single tied Greg Colbrunn for the fifth-longest run in franchise history.
"I've never experienced anything like that in my life," Cantu said. "It was a a lot of fun. I'll have the rest of my life to remember it."
For Nolasco (2-0), the road win was his second straight in at one of the league's better hitters' parks against one of the best hitting lineups. Last Saturday in Philadelphia, he threw a complete game in a 5-1 Marlins win over the two-time reigning NL champions."
