Germany international Bastian Schweinsteiger is set to undergo another operation on his right ankle, ruling the Bayern Munich midfield dynamo out indefinitely.

The 29-year old, who underwent surgery on the same ankle in July, needs a further operation after not recovering from the previous as expected, Bayern Munich announced on Friday via their website.

Club doctor Hans-Willhelm Mueller-Wohlfahrt explained ''increasing ossification" was visible in the ankle during recent check-ups, which can lead to tendinitis.

Tendinitis would spell out a very long time on the sidelines for the German, as it's an inflamation of the tendon which links the muscle to bone.
