Barber can't get it done for Cowboys

"Nobody wins the off-season like your Dallas Cowboys, always talking of how this is the year and how close they are, the hint of Super Bowl never far from any conversation. And 2010 may very well be that year. The Dez Bryant hype alone has many national types prematurely coronating.Just one tiny little niggling detail has been bothering me: If the Cowboys absolutely had to get a yard in say an NFC Championship Game, who do they give the ball to?Do not say Marion Barber, not with any degree of certainty. The reality of "The Barbarian" is not nearly as sexy as the hype we were sold when Owner Jones paid him all of that money before 2008. He has been slightly underwhelming when healthy, and rarely has been healthy. So I have a hard time buying him as the running back capable of carrying them to a February date at JerryWorld, much less getting that aforementioned yard."You are going to write that? Why?" Cowboys running backs coach Skip Peete asked me Tuesday. Why yes, yes I am.The "whys" quickly get overwhelming with regards to Barber, so I will limit myself to three, namely:1.) He is one of the highest-paid running backs in the league and one of the highest-paid players on the Cowboys' roster yet does not have a 1,000-yard season under his belt, and;2.) He stunk in short yardage last year, and;3.) He has proven himself physically incapable of staying healthy for a whole season.Peete accidentally backed up my final point while trying to defend his "starting" running back. He was explaining how Barber had played the final 13 games of 2009 with a torn quadriceps, not a bruised one as had been reported after Game 2 of last season."
