Banged-up Miami Dolphins don't rule out left tackle Jake Long playing Thursday vs. Chicago Bears

"The good news on the Dolphins' injury report released Monday for Thursday's game against Chicago is that no players were listed as out.

The bad news?

A season-high 13 players were included, the majority of whom incurred their problems in Sunday's 29-17 victory over Tennessee.

Tackle Jake Long and quarterback Chad Henne were among the four players who did not participate in the evening walkthrough, increasing speculation that neither will be available Thursday night. Henne's absence had been widely anticipated.

Though coach Tony Sparano called Henne "day-to-day" and did not rule him out for Thursday's game during his press conference earlier in the day - a step Sparano did take in announcing Chad Pennington had suffered a "long-term" injury - his players talked matter-of-factly about having Tyler Thigpen play quarterback this week.

Neither was Long's status any surprise. It had been widely reported he suffered a dislocated left shoulder in the fourth quarter of Sunday's game, and ESPN's Chris Mortenson said Monday he also had labrum damage in the same area.

But again, Sparano didn't rule him out, saying, "Jake's a pretty tough guy. We'll see where we go."

After Sparano either declined or rejected other opportunities to further discuss the injury situation, perhaps unwilling to give the Bears insights into his lineup issues, the injury report mandated by the league brought the situation into better focus.

Four players - Henne, Long, safety Chris Clemons (hamstring) and center Joe Berger (knee) - did not participate in Monday's walkthrough.

Five others were limited: safety Yeremiah Bell (toe), tackle Vernon Carey (knee), safety Tyrone Culver (ankle) and wide receiver Roberto Wallace (knee).

Listed but fully participating were linebackers Channing Crowder (ribs), Karlos Dansby (elbow), Cameron Wake (hip) and Tim Dobbins (ankle) and defensive end Kendall Langford (ankle).

Many of those listed - including Bell, Culver, Wallace, Dobbins and Dansby - have been playing through the injuries listed, in some cases for weeks.

Henne, Long, Berger and Carey were all new to the list, however, and the importance of having a quarterback and three starting linemen is significant.

Dansby dismissed both the negative effects of having so many players banged up and a short week to prepare for the Bears."
