Bailey, Revis share island's corner room

"It can be a lonely place on the football field, eye to eye with some of the NFL's best athletes, the potential of a prime-time, did-you-see-that highlight always hanging over your head.

"Basically when you mess up, everybody sees it, everybody knows it, because it's a touchdown," said Broncos cornerback Champ Bailey. "It's that island."

Most personnel people in the NFL would rank the difficulty in finding a true "lockdown" cornerback, one with the ability to play the league's top wide receivers 1-on-1 despite the constraints of a pass-happy rule book, just behind locating a franchise quarterback or an elite left tackle for the offensive line.

The combination of speed, strength and savvy, as well as the ability to forget if you get beat, are difficult to find. Two at the front of that line may be on display Sunday at Invesco Field at Mile High: Bailey and New York Jets star Darrelle Revis.

"He's been one I've been trying to watch more, see what he does, see why everybody says he's so great," Bailey said. "I like the way he plays."

Revis has been bothered by a sore left hamstring in recent weeks, which is why the Jets had Antonio Cromartie, and not Revis, shadow Randy Moss in their 29-20 victory over the Vikings on Monday night. Revis' status for Sunday's game against Denver is still uncertain.

But the Jets think Revis is so important to their defense, they ended his training camp holdout by signing him to a four-year contract worth $46 million — with $32 million guaranteed.

The fact that Revis plays in the nation's No. 1 media market means there are plenty of "Revis Island" T-shirts to be found — designed with Revis in a jet, flying over the receivers he has covered. Bengals wideout Chad Ochocinco has even sent out a picture he made and forwarded on Twitter with Revis standing alone on an island with Ochocinco taunting him."
