Few had a tougher night Thursday than the Red Wings’ second line.

The Wings lost 4-2 at Joe Louis Arena to the Phoenix Coyotes after which Mike Babcock vowed the coaching staff would take a good look at how personnel is used. That will certainly include the line of Stephen Weiss Daniel Alfredsson and Johan Franzen who were on for three Coyotes goals.

“They lost the face-off for the first one broke down on D-zone coverage on the second one anyway you look at it that puts you in a tough spot” Babcock said. “They weren’t good. They didn’t generate enough scoring opportunity and hasn’t been good for us so we’re going to have to take a look at it and see what we can do.”

The third line did generate its first goal with Joakim Andersson scoring early in the second period. But overall considering the depth the Wings have the offense has been noticeably lacking.

“We weren’t good enough in any way so we’ll have to look at it the way we’re playing everybody and what we’re doing” Babcock said. “Obviously we didn’t do a very good job this week as a coaching staff because we weren’t ready to play.”

Weiss had an especially difficult evening losing 16 of 24 face-offs and finishing minus-four.
