"It's more than a bit strange that the only Avalanche player still unsigned with training camp nearing is defenseman Kyle Cumiskey. Coming off an injury-filled season in which he played only 18 games and with several young defensive prospects closer to making the jump to the Avs, some wondered if Cumiskey would even be retained with a qualifying offer this summer.
He was, with a qualifying offer of $708,750, which some might argue is too much for a player with a spotty playing and health history so far. Cumiskey, though, has yet to agree to a real contract with Colorado. I spoke this morning with his agent, Ross Gurney, and while he didn't have anything to say on the record about why there has yet to be a contract, he did say Cumiskey is 100 percent healthy again following his last concussion."
