"The Avalanche gave further evidence Monday that it plans a complete overhaul at the goaltender position when it failed to offer Brian Elliott a qualifying offer to retain his rights.
Elliott and center Phillipe Dupuis were the two potential restricted free agents who were not tendered qualifying offers. That means they can become unrestricted free agents Friday, when the NHL's open market begins.
The Avs extended qualifying offers to six players — TJ Galiardi, Ryan O'Byrne, David Jones, Kyle Cumiskey, Kevin Porter and Ryan Wilson.
The Avs are highly likely to sign a free-agent goalie — and maybe two — when bidding commences Friday."
