For the second straight year Auburn will have a Division I transfer on its roster sitting out before having multiple seasons of eligibility left remaining.

The Tigers program announced Tuesday that 6-foot-4 guard Samir Doughty will be transferring from Virginia Commonwealth to Auburn and the 187-pound perimeter player will have two years of eligibility remaining after redshirting this upcoming season.

Doughty, the 20-year-old Philadelphia native, played in 35 games, starting 15, averaging nine points, 3.6 rebounds and 2.1 assists in 23.1 minutes per game as a redshirt freshman for VCU, which lost to Saint Mary’s in the NCAA Tournament first round. Doughty announced his intention to transfer in late May following then-Rams head coach Will Wade leaving the VCU program to be the new head coach at LSU.
