"The Auburn Hills Police Department is still putting the finishing touches on a final police report involving the altercation Monday night at the Palace.
But Lt. Casimir Miarka doesn't expect anything to come of the incident between Detroit Pistons forward Charlie Villanueva and Cleveland Cavaliers forward Ryan Hollins, Miarka said in a phone interview this afternoon.
"At this point, this is kind of closed for us," Miarka said. "We've had no complaints of any criminal matters."
Miarka said Auburn Hills police officers were there to assist security officers at The Palace and did not restrain Villanueva in any way. Eyewitness reports said that officers used pads to physically prevent Villanueva from leaving the loading dock area and gaining access to the Cavaliers locker room following a confrontation between Villanueva and Hollins on the court.
According to Villanueva, the incident started in the fourth quarter when Hollins elbowed Villanueva in the face then said something "smart" when Villanueva confronted him about the elbow. Shortly thereafter, Villanueva simultaneously set a pick and tried to punch Hollins in the groin area with his left hand.
The two became entangled and each raked the other across the face with a hand before being separated. After both were ejected, Villanueva tried to get at Hollins on the court, but he was restrained by Pistons head of security Jerry Hendon and point guard Rodney Stuckey.
Shortly thereafter, Villanueva left the Pistons locker room and raced toward the Cavaliers locker room in an attempt to confront Hollins.
Miarka said Auburn Hills police officers aided Palace security officers in the loading dock area and then stationed two officers outside each locker room."
