At last minute, Berrian decides he will not play

"Bernard Berrian was in uniform Sunday, but the receiver didn't play in the Vikings' 27-13 loss to the Bears.

Berrian, before the game, decided the groin problem that landed him on the injury report last Friday wouldn't allow him to play against his former team. But he informed the Vikings too late in the process and ate up a spot on the 45-man game-day roster.

"He was set to go, we had him up and I knew it was bugging him a little bit," coach Brad Childress said. "Whether it was the conditions or he got tight, cold, tweaked it again, I'm not exactly sure. He just said, 'I can't go.' "

Berrian, who had a season-high nine catches for 89 yards the previous week against Arizona, confirmed his groin was bothering him. Quarterback Brett Favre said he thought Berrian tweaked the injury on the first catch in pregame.

Berrian, on Twitter, indicated that wasn't the case. "Don't ever question my heart or toughness," he tweeted. "[I've] played plenty games injured. U just don't hear bout it. N warmup had nothin 2 do w/it."

Harvin hurt; Rice out

Wide receiver Percy Harvin, who played despite a recurrence of migraines last week, re-injured his sprained left ankle during a fourth quarter kickoff return.

Harvin, who did not talk to reporters after the game, led the Vikings with six receptions for 64 yards, including a 53-yard TD catch that was the Vikings' first pass play of more than 40 yards this season.

Receiver Sidney Rice made the trip with the Vikings but remained on the physically unable to perform list. Rice had hip surgery in late August and is eligible to be activated when he feels he can play.

"We went through yesterday morning to see how he came back from Friday's practice," Childress said. "I'm not going to say we went to the 3 o'clock deadline, but we had our mock game yesterday morning and just talked to him. He didn't feel like he was able to go yet.""
