The Astros will sign jefthander Tony Sipp, who was released by the Padres, a person with knowledge of the transaction said.

Sipp has been with the Padres Triple-A affiliate this year and has pitched 15 innings with a 4.30 ERA.

Primarily a middle reliever, Sipp has five years in the majors with the Indians (2009-12) and Diamondbacks (2013).

For his career, he has a 3.84 ERA in 258 innings.

He will be 31 in July.

Sipp’s relesae and plan to sign with the Astros was first reported by the San Diego Union Tribune.
